It's a Girl!

Yes, that's right, I am a father. At 5:30 AM Monday morning, Jen began to have some stronger contractions. She had had some since the previous Tuesday, but these were different and stronger. They became closer together until they were 2-3 minutes apart, right when we were instructed to go into the hospital. We went in at 11 AM were sent home after observation at about 4:30 PM because she was not making enough progress. This was our gorgeous corner room.

We went home with Jen's contractions getting stronger. We learned how to breath, and Jen took naps between contractions. Since contractions were 2-3 minutes apart already, our new instructions were to come in when the pain was unbearable. At 8 PM we went in and after an hour of observation she was admitted, and subsequently received an epidural, which helped her relax. She didn't progress terribly fast after that but jumped from a 6 at 1 AM to a 9 at 2 PM. At 3 she was complete and ready for stage 2 but the doctor on call kinda wanted to wait around as long as possible for our doctor to be able to be there so he told the nurse to "wait and descend." I think that's what she called it. Well, after two hours of that, at 5 AM, Jen started to push. At 6 AM a change in shifts caused some confusion, and Jen's epidural medicine to run out and she began to feel the pains of labor. It took a while to get her to a level that allowed her to push again, about 30 mins. Our doctor was there a little past 7, and the baby was born at 7:48 AM, May 30th 2006, at 6 pounds 14 ounces, measuring at 18 3/4 inches. Her name is to be decided and she has a full head of strawberry blond-ish (auburndy-ish, depending on who you ask). Both Jen and the baby are doing great.

Conference Weekend

Saturday of conference weekend, Jen and I planned on listening to General Conference on the radio (being that we didn't have TV in that appartment). Well, as luck would have it, the radio station would not come in real clear. We could hear the talks, just with a lot of crackle. It became annoying, so I tried to get a better reception. After many failed attempts, I thought that a big pan would work a little like a cantenna or satelite dish. It did but I had to hold the pan. Jen thought it was funny so she took a picture.

Showering Baby Gifts

On Saturday, the ward we just moved out of , BYU 114th, threw Jen a baby shower. It was in the park on 5th West 5th North. It was windy and cold and Jen had a lot of fun.

Sara (the red haired girl - second from the right) says to Vote for Opera for President of the United States. Who knew Sara was such an avide Opera fan?

We went to the Ob/Gyn yesturday (May 9th) and Jen is measureing at 35 cm. Jen also didn't gain any weight. We were a little concerned but the Docter said that everything is ok, the baby probably won't be 8-9 lbs. but more like 6 and that there is nothing wrong with that. He told Jen that she looks small when she is standing but when she was laying down for the heart moniter he said that she is running out of room. He told Jen that she just hides it well. That made Jen feel better, being that EVERYONE tells her that she is way small.

The night before we went to the docter, Jen was up throughout the night with a pain right under her sternum that felt like a "wood block." Well, it sounds like the baby is running out of room and is kicking higher then she did before. We are in the final 4 weeks, so we are getting close.

Baby room

On Wendesday, Diane, Jen, and I put together the crib before Jenn took me to work. After work we raced to the airport to drop Diane off for her to fly home. That night Jen and I put together the baby changer. It wasn't too hard and it goes great with the crib.

Josh came over as we were finishing the changer and brought some gifts my parents brought for us on their trip to Hawaii. This bag is what they got Jen. She is contemplating whether to use it for a diaper bag or not. She thought it is pretty cute and liked it a lot.

Moving Down the Street

So we are having a baby soon and needed to move out of our apartment. We have been boxing our stuff for a few weeks.

I was in the bedroom doing something, packing a box of some kind, and when I came back out I saw this stack of boxes. Jen stacked them from floor to ceiling. I was praying for no earthquake during our packing period. (or that nobody would bumb it or anything)

After taking this picture, we thought we should show Jen's pregnant progress, so we took a profile shot. She is at 34 for weeks in this picture.

Jen's mom, Diane, came in town on the 29th of April to help pack and unpack. She was an amazing help. We could not keep up with her, our days ended when Jen or I pooped out, Diane never reached that pooped point.

The next series of pictures were taken on the night of the move on May 1. The move was a crazy day. We had a few issues with U-Haul. First, I reserved the truck from 9 to 2 , but we decided to change to an earlier time , at 7 .

I didn't get a chance to call by the Tuesday before the move but they called us. They called to say they we won't have a truck, then a second later said that we did. When I asked the lady if we could come in at 7 to pick the truck up instead of 9, she said that there would be no problem and to come on in.

Then Friday comes and the same lady calls and says that we don't have a truck. I was kinda waiting for the "Nevermind, you do" but it didn't come and instead gave me the option of getting the truck on Sunday afternoon and turn it in Monday morning or Monday afternoon and turn it in Tuesday morning. So I told her I needed to talk to my wife and will call U-Haul back. Jen said that the two options wouldn't work so I called around and the prices from everyone else were just a little too high for us.

So Jen convinced me to be a little mean and tell the lady it's her problem and needs to get us a truck. I was a little nicer and asked if there was anything she could do. Then the lady looked at the computer, and wham, a truck was avalible. I asked like twice if she was sure, and if I could still pick it up at 7. She assured me that she was sure I had a truck and that I could pick it up at 7.

Day of move. Get to U-Haul at 7. Give my name to the employee behind the desk. He tells me, "Mr. Wilbur, you aren't supposed to be here until 9, come back at 9." Jen was like "the lady told us we could come in at 7." The man said that he was sorry the lady told us that but there was no truck to give us. The only truck he had had the keys locked in by the last user and the locksmith needed to come out and a lady that was supposed to return it at 7 had not shown up yet.

We had people showing up at 8 and had no truck, so we just moved everything out on the lawn and side walk, the girls cleaned, I got the truck, loaded, unloaded, and were done moving at 11:30 AM! It was great. We had some awesome guys there helping us. Then amazing Diane starts to unpack.

This is the kitchen, the white boxes on the left are all empty at that point.

This is our family room. The couch on the left is not ours and will be moved out sometime.

This is our entry way. We have an entry way! I still think that a coat hangers should have coats on it but Jen will never allow her dried wedding flowers to ever find another home.

This is our master bedroom. The placement on the armoir and the bed was difficult because we had no idea where these heave items would go before we were lifting them into the appartment. I didn't want the bed to have a side against a wall and Jen wanted the armoir in the same room with us. So this was really the only comprimise that was possible.

Another bedroom shot. We now have a little night stand, which we like.

This is our shower. I thought that this is a cool shower. I never imagined that I would ever shower in anything approching this nice in a very long time.

This is the Baby room. The crib and shelves are all build now and will be posted later, probably tomorrow.

This is the Office/Craft room/Guest room. The Queen size inflatable bed from my Grandpa Campbell was great and I think Diane really liked it.

Well, that was our first day of our move. We don't have internet at our home yet, and I am doing this during my break, so posts may pick up soon, but we will see.
