Josh and Hayley had their baby!
Josh announced last night about 11 pm that Hayley's water broke. They went to the hospital about 1:30. She delivered at 5:29am a beautiful 7 pound 6 ounce, 19 inch boy. Both mom and baby are doing fine. His Apgar was 9.9 (out of a possible 10). The timing was perfect. Alyssa and Ben were in town and leave early tomorrow morning to return to Utah and Jarrod and my dad will be gone all next week camping. They haven't got a name in stone yet but I think they said the first name will be Channing.

4th of July in Logan
For the Independence Weekend, we had a lot of fun. I felt like I had been off from two weeks of class instead of just one day. The 3rd we went to the fireworks show at the USU stadium. There is a hill just south of the stadium that overlooks the stadium and was a great spot. We really had no idea what we were doing beforehand, we just drove around and kind of followed everyone else a little. Tyler was tired by the time the fireworks went off after 10 but Kate seemed pretty awake.
There was a fly over of some bomber or cargo plane. Katelynn covered her ears but seemed to like it. When the fireworks started she was at first saying she wanted to go home. After a couple minutes of her saying over and over again that she wanted to go home she stopped and enjoyed the whole thing. She danced and made some pretty cute faces.
The drive home was crazy, I think most of the valley was there trying to get home all at once. Kate and Ty were asleep almost instantly when we got in the car. I think we tuckered them out.
On the 4th we got together with some friends that we had known in Provo that also live in Logan now for school, Delia and Jared, and went to a park. We grilled some hamburgers and had a great dinner. The Randell's brought some fireworks which the kids loved.
They picked which fireworks would be set off next. They loved being in charge of the festivities.

Both jumped for joy at the fireworks.
It is great the enthusiasm that both kids had over the fireworks. I really was surprise with how excited they were over them. I knew they would think it was cool, but they couldn't get enough. They were definitely disappointed that the whole thing was over. We really enjoy being with the Randalls. They really are fun to hang out with, plus they somehow tolerate us.

Make-up Disaster
For Katelynn's birthday, she received money from different grandparents. She used some of that money to buy a make-up kit. We were such good parents to allow such a purchase. What were we thinking? Kate had some messy fun with a neighbor boy with all the make-up but never got out of control.
The other day Jen and I were talking about grills that we could do the 4th at and I thought there was one in the back behind our house. Jen wasn't sure so I went to Kate's window to see if I could see one. I saw Kate out of the corner of my eye and teased and said, "Who is sitting in the corner there?" She sheepishly said, "Me." I thought nothing of it, looked and saw no grill and went back to Jen. Jen asked what Kate was doing and I said playing, although disclaimed I only saw her out of the corner of my eye. Jen decided that she needed to investigate and this is what she found.
Kate decided that all the make-up needed to cover her entire body. And the carpet. And some doors and walls. This stuff was oily and took lots of soap, water, and elbow grease to get it all out.
She got an immediate bath obviously.
That'll teach us.

My Father's Day
So this is a little late but I wanted to express the appreciation I feel for how good a Father's Day I had. Jen and Kate made it such a great day for me. Here are the cards Kate made for me for Father's Day. She wished me a happy Father's Day for at least a couple days after.

Recently Discovered Websites
Okay, so I am a tech geek (I claim other areas of geek as well) but I thought these things were really cool and I think everyone, or at least many people, would find these at least interesting.
The WolframAlpha seems like it is just another search engine like Google and they just name it a something-other-than-search-engine name, in this case they call it a computational knowledge engine (like Bing did, the new search engine by Microsoft, they use the stupid term "decision engine").
But it really is different. It doesn't search for websites that have the term(s) you are searching for. It calculates things for you, it is a really big complex calculator. But this doesn't do just arithmetic and calculus or even physics and statistical. It can do all sorts of calculation and data finding. Like you can type in your name and it tells you the current popularity of the name, how many people are in the US that have the same name, most common age, etc. Put in your birthday and they tell you all sorts of things for the day. They have a whole host of questions that you can ask. I have used it as a financial calculator, but also to figure out what 90 days after a specific date. Jen's cousin, Wes, is in a chemistry class and when I showed it to him he got excited over the information that it gave him on different compound's data.
Just try it out real quick. It has an element of novelty that I saw in it at first as more of a toy. But I am starting to see a practical side that would make it very powerful and useful in the future. Keep in mind they opened this up just a few weeks ago and are growing and building new things in all the time.

This one is not nearly as cool but it is neat to see the numbers. I have seen other ones but this one is pretty comprehensive on the debt of the US.
