Katelynn received a sprinkler toy on her birthday this year. We don't have access to a hose at our apartment and this is a necessary component to the toy. We went over to my grandparents to try out Katelynn's toy, and oh boy, did she have a good time.
Now please note in these videos that I was not feeling in my tip-top-shape, healthy self. I was having some stomach flu-ish thing. Katelynn is a cutey though.
Now the stuff on Katelynn's face is not chocolate, or food, it is dirt. There is a plant pot next to our neighbor's door. Katelynn loves to run around and was over by the pot and before we knew it, Katelynn had a hand-full of dirt in her mouth. Nasty!
She really didn't seem to see that there was anything wrong other than her spitting it out, but she does that everyday at her high chair.
On Friday, I stayed home from work sick. I really was sick. I was just achy but it was intense achy and I hate being achy. I would rather have just about any other ailment: vomiting, fever, sore throat. We got a cute picture of Katelynn when she came up to me and cuddled in the blanket.
Jen thought it would be cute to paint Katelynn's toe nails. I thought Jen was very brave with how active Katelynn is all the time.
Katelynn loves to carry things around. It sometimes seems that the heavier, the better.
Right before we shot this video below, Katelynn was making her "Ethan" face. An "Ethan" face is a face that her cousin used to make to smile. It is just a cute, cheesy smile. I think she knew we were taping her and she was playing with us a little. She really seemed to like the light being turned on, though. What do you think?
We had a wonderful Fourth of July. We started the day off with a nice long walk from our house to the morning festivals. We wanted to watch the hot air balloons but because Katelynn allowed us to sleep in we didn't make it to the hot air balloons. Katelynn had fun during the parade mainly playing with my keys and eating raisins.
See that big inflatable guy in the center of the picture? He was really funny. I think there was a person in there and he kinda jumped and skipped around. He just looked so silly.
There were seriously about 50 people on Segways making their way around. Some were patrolling and keeping the parade on task or as parade participants.
Of course there were old cool cars in the parade. If you look closely President Samuelson is the the cowboy hat.
Of course Cosmo graced our presence but the cool part was that he was riding a classic Brick Oven motorcycle thing.

As we were walking over to the parade we saw Katie Moyer who we haven't seen in over a year. Only those who know her will be able to recognize her since the picture turned out blurry. She had a backpack on and is next to the person in a white shirt.
Many people may not know this about Nathan but he loves bagpipes. Nathan was in heaven due to the fact that there were multiple bagpipe groups.

This car was pretty cool with the double rear axles.
Nathan really wants us to show you this guy who was sitting in front of us. We'll just say that he was quite the character. He helped entertain us when we were bored.
What would a parade in Provo be without the missionaries?
This is what the guy in front of us had to say about it.
This needs no caption really- we wonder as much as you why there was a KFC float.
This is another one where you can wonder why it is a part of the parade. I'll quote the side for you "O. H. Undertaker 1870"
This was the LDS Churches float. It was really neat, the eagle rotated around the mountain and tilted back and forth.
The rest of the day was great too, but being the brilliant people we are, we didn't take any pictures. So we sum it up, you make the pictures in your head. We stopped at Sonic and got a slushy so that we didn't die climbing the mountain the Provoians call State Street. We invited Alyssa, Ben, and Dan for dinner. Dan was great entertainment, as usual. Katelynn naturally was the center of attention though and was great entertainment as well. She was such a big girl, showing off her toys, pulling them out of the cabinet for everyone to see.
I wanted to publicly let everyone know something. I splurged. I was just too excited about the iPhone and just had to have one.
Just kidding. Dan did. But he has since returned it.
He tried to sell it on Ebay but didn't find any buyers.
Dan had to explain to his parents his scam. He bought it and would be able to return it in 14 days with no questions asked. So he would post it to Ebay and if it doesn't sell, return it.
You can't see, but his parents weren't too happy.
Dan kept explaining himself.
I think he tried to soften his parents with the beautiful iPhone.
Diane came up to Utah with Dan to keep him company in the car. Dan started summer term at BYU and Diane took the opportunity to visit us. Diane and Jen went up to visit Grandma Barnes at some point. Unfortunately they didn't take many pictures. This picture is the only one that came out of that visit.

One day Dan, Diane, Jen and Katelynn came up and ate lunch with me. It was a lot of fun just to relax in the shade during the quiet time of summer term.
Katelynn now has four teeth and like to chew on anything she can.
And to brush her teeth.
So Thursday, Jen made brownies with frosting for Enrichment and brought the left overs home and put them on the shorter shelf that comes off the kitchen counter. Katelynn at some point in the day grabbed the plate (paper, thank goodness) and pulled it to the ground. By the time Jen found her, Katelynn was already chomping into a brownie so Jen put her into her high chair and let her enjoy. And enjoy she did.
Our parking situation is that we park in an Apartment/Condo parking space along our building. We have an overhang, which is great in the winter with the snow, and the post for the side of the overhang is on the passenger side. The person on the driver side has a habit of parking on the line or partially on our side of the line. This habit is annoying but we haven't been too out of shape about it. So Jen parked REALLY close to the pole one day because of the encroaching neighbor car. When she backed out later, not remembering that she parked close the last time she parked and that she needed to look in her mirror, so she hit the pole. Mind you only the passenger side rear view mirror was hit so it was way better than it could have been. That side mirror was dangling when I was at work. I came home and disconnected the wires which was the only thing left intact. Jen wasn't mad or shaken up, just extremely embarrassed. I think that stuff like this happens to everyone. Anyways, I spent all day the next Saturday gluing with epoxy glue all the pieces back together and fixed it. I was very proud of myself. Especially that I took the entire thing apart to get under the mirror, something my fix-it dad has not been able to do without breaking the mirror. There are not many pictures because until I fixed it, Jen was too embarrassed for this to be posted, but once fixed she thought that I should be proud, which I was, and post it. These were the pictures I sent to my dad to get his advise on the direction I should go.
As you can see, it broke off completely.
I took a picture deep inside because that arm above attached to that white thing deep inside. I was trying to figure out how to glue that on deep inside. Luckily I figured out how to remove the mirror.
This glue was a miracle worker.
This is the end result. I was rather proud of myself. It didn't fit perfect but I think the molding was a little bent so it fit well enough.
