Our blog of firsts

This is a blog of firsts. Because it seems to take me so long to get around to doing the blog I've decided to quickly go through all the new things we experienced lately.

These are the first drapes I've ever made. Thanks to my mom's expertise they actually look cute!! We've put them up in Katelynn's room to keep it warm and dark.

About a two weeks ago Katelynn took her first real bath. She really enjoys splashing around and eating her bath toys.

This is the first cake that we've made that didn't' fall apart. Doesn't it look yummy?

Here is Nathan's first experience of making a highchair.

This is our first highchair. Katelynn loves it. We were getting ready to feed Katelynn her first bite cereal (that will be shown later).

On our adventure to get Katelynn highchair we had to go all the way up to Midvale. I'd wanted to go to temple square to see the lights so we took advantage of our hunt for the highchair and went to enjoy the lights. It was the weekend of Thanksgiving and very crowded. It was fun and very pretty- and cold! We were glad to go feel the Christmas spirit.

Here is Katelynn's first time eating cereal. She really enjoyed it.

We did a video chat with everyone back at home so they could watch the big day! You can see Nathan's mom on the left side of the screen.

We survived without Katelynn getting too messy. Everyday she is so excited to eat and seems to be eating more and more. It is fun.

Birthday for me

So last Wednesday was my birthday and it was great. I usually don't make my birthday a big deal about it and don't let anyone really know about it. It's not that I am trying to keep it secret or anything but that I really don't think about it much. I mean, I often completely forget it's my birthday until someone says "Happy Birthday" to me. Anyway, at work someone found out somehow (I think I mentioned something briefly about it) and she remembered a couple weeks later and brought a slice of pumpkin pie for me. She said it was all that they had at her apartment. Then another girl at work must have been told and gave me a little homemade card.

So that was pretty cool. So I then go to class and during the break a girl in class saw the card on my desk and was saying it was cute and was like "It's you Birthday, cool." Well she told the teacher and the class sang the primary Birthday song to me. Kinda embarrassing. So it was unexpectedly a cool day.

After a cool dinner of Tarragon Chicken, I opened cards and presents.

And what is a blog post without Katelynn. I mean it was my day, but she is never not the focus.

I taught Katelynn how to open presents so that she will be prepared for the big present event in a month. She is grabbing everything that she can see and probably won't have any problems opening her presents on Christmas.

My super, duper, extra secretly cool present was from Jenn. She figured I needed my own apron since I steal hers all the time in the kitchen. Kudos to Jenn for getting Katelynn’s hand and foot prints on the apron with out getting paint ALL over. Just shows you how awesome she is!

I got a light navy blue shirt and a navy blue pair of slacks. I only call it light navy blue because the pants were navy blue but the shirt navy blue is lighter, so doesn’t that make it light navy blue? The shirt has small baby blue dots on it that would probably be impossible to take a picture of and so I won’t even try. The shirt was from Jenn and the pants were my mom.

I also got this cool little chair from my mom. It’s for when I am studying and it has a like vibrating massage thingy that feels so good. And here is Katelynn enjoying my chair.

My mom also got me a nike plus as I mentioned on an earlier post. It is so cool to have and use. I highly recommend it for anyone that is even remotely wanting to run. It is a little sensor that goes in your shoe and a receiver that goes on your iPod and measures your pace and distance and all. Then when you sync your iPod with your computer it sends the data to nike.com and it graphs your run for you. I posted my first run results a few days ago. It is $30, but you need an iPod. You technically need Nike plus shoes that have a little dip inside the shoe to place the sensor but I just use my old running shoes and wedge it and tie it down on top of the tongue. I am going to velcro it down to make sure it stays in place. PS - Just as I am about to post this, I noticed the baby blue dots can be seen in this picture. So there you go.

I am not a giant fan of cake, so Jenn made brownies and we had a brownie with a scoop of ice cream and hot fudge all over it all. Mmmm. I love brownies and ice cream and hot fudge.

Growing up so fast

Katelynn now can sit up all on her own. It is crazy how fast things happen. It was almost as if it happened over night. When I was in California she sat up ok when she was propped up. Then after we'd be home a week she was sitting up so well all on her own. It is so much fun. Nathan really loves it. It is almost like she is a dog and doing tricks. He tells people 'look what she can do.' It is cute. We are very excited and amazed everyday at all the new things she is doing. For example, as I have been making this blog she has rolled over on her own from her tummy to her back for the first time!! She was trying to do it yesterday and she finally got it today! YAY!

Here are the first pictures we got of her sitting up all on her own. She was so intrigued by her wipes we took full advantage of the photo shoot.

My little random trip home

Katelynn and I flew home for a week at the end of October. We had a very FUN and BUSY week. It was a nice change from our slow paced life back at home. In the one week we were home we celebrated Halloween and Nichole and Ethan's Birthdays!

My mom, Nichole, Ethan and Annalise came to pick us up at the airport. The kids were so happy to see each other. Katelynn started screaming with excitement at her cousins and they joined in excitedly running around the airport.

One day I came down stairs to see my mom and Nichole taking these cute pictures of the kids.

Katelynn sure enjoyed grabbing for the kids, luckily it didn't seem to bother them too much. Unfortunately, Katelynn was not always as happy to be held by Annalise. It is cute how Annalise so naturally plays with dolls and wants to hold Katelynn. Total girl. She would always say "hold it. hold it."- referring to Katelynn.

Ethan was so sweet to Katelynn and would talk with her with a cute little baby voice. He would always tell her "I'm your favorite, aren't I?"

In California Katelynn experienced her first time in a highchair. She loved it.

Now we begin with the adorable Halloween pictures. Katelynn was a cute ballerina, Annalise was an angel, and Ethan was a handsome knight. First we went over to my Grandma and Grandpa Goldthorpe's house to show off the cute costumes.

Katelynn wasn't really sure what to think about her tutu.

She tried to suck her fingers and tutu at the same time.....Yum.

Here she is grabbing for Annalise...again...

Here are some more Halloween pictures back at my parent's house. Katelynn did very well when we went Trick-or-Treating. She was happy and enjoyed walking around with the kids.

The day after Halloween, November 1st, was Nichole's birthday. We went to BJ's for dinner is was delicious! As you can see, by the time we got back from the restaurant, Katelynn had just about had it!! We went to put Katelynn into Annalise's crib while Nichole opened her presents and Annalise was so worried that Katelynn was going to take her 'kiki" (blanket). Luckily, we got it all straightened out and Katelynn got to get some much needed sleep.

These are some VERY cute pictures that I got of Eth and Katelynn.

When I was home my parent's got new windows in the whole house. This was so exciting for all of us!!! We all will enjoy these new windows. The house is so nice and quiet now!!

Nichole is a wonderfully ambitious mother and threw a fun pirate party for Ethan. She asked him what kind of cake he wanted and we finally found this cute pirate cake pan. We decorated this cake in about a two hour rush so Ethan and Nichole could go have fun with their FREE Disneyland tickets!!!

Here is Katelynn with her Grandma and Grandpa Wilbur.

Annalise is very little so it was always funny to see Katelynn sitting on her lap. I was a bit worried Katelynn would crush her.

I love this picture!!

Here is Katelynn with her Great-Grandpa Goldthorpe. She always loves it in his arms!

Here is Katelynn with Grandma and Grandpa Barnes

My mom made this delicious ice cream cake for Nichole's birthday cake.
