When Katelynn was in the bath in the last post, she was yelling something that Jen could not understand. Finally she realized that Kate was yelling, "NATHAN." Jen asked if she was saying Nathan. Kate nodded. Jen asked if Kate wanted Daddy. Kate nodded and yelled again "NATHAN."
Is it normal for a less-than-two year old to call her dad by his name? Oh, the things children learn.
It did make me think even more about the words I say and what I talk about. I need to watch my mouth very carefully from now on (not that I am bad in anyway, just that even not-so-nice words that a toddler should not say occasionally slip through my lips).
Ah yes. Weston will still call his Dad Ian if I have just talked to him using his first name. He imitates me if I call him hon or honey too. He'll say, "Ready for dinner honey?" to his Dad. It's pretty funny, but the mimic thing does get old. You just have to make sure not to laugh at the not so nice things they say and apologize for saying them yourself. I love the talking phase though, so cute!

ReplyDeleteCompletely normal at least for a first child. Matthew used to call us Ang and Mike all of the time. I am now always Mama, but he still goes back and forth between Mike and Daddy.

Kate knows my name because Jen calls me by Nathan instead of daddy.
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny because Gredtel just started calling Clayton "Hess!" because that's what I call him when he can't hear me and i've said Clayton a few times already! Hilarious! We've had the same epiphony! Katelynn is so cute!

ReplyDeleteHe doesn't do it all the time. But sometimes if Owen is calling for one of us and we don't answer he will shout out our first names. It works. We usually respond.
